What Fluids Need to be Checked?
- Oil: Motor oil, or engine oil, keeps the parts of your engine lubricated so they can move properly. Old, dirty oil makes your engine sluggish, which can affect fuel efficiency and cause damage. Check fluid levels and top off when needed. If the oil is dark and filled with debris, it’s time for an oil change.
- Transmission Fluid: This fluid keeps your transmission lubricated and, like motor oil, helps prevent more expensive problems down the road. Transmission fluid should be clear with a pinkish tint. You can check your transmission fluid yourself, and bring it to your local service center to have it changed when necessary.
- Brake Fluid: Brake fluid keeps your brakes working properly and adds power to your braking to help you stop. Low fluid or dirty fluid can affect how well your brakes work, which can be dangerous. Be sure to have this checked regularly, either by yourself or by a trained service tech.
- Washer Fluid: This may not seem as critical, but it’s important for your safety and the safety of others to keep your wash fluid at the correct level. Without the proper solution, your dirty windows can prevent you from seeing clearly out of your windshield. Refilling your washer fluid is something you can easily do at home.
