When your Chevy car, truck, or SUV needs an alignment, visit Libertyville Chevrolet. We have a service center that’s filled with precision diagnostic and repair instruments and staffed by technicians who have been trained and certified by GM. They’ll be able to determine what kind of wheel alignment your Chevy needs, and then align your vehicle’s wheels back to factory specifications. Below, you’ll find some of the alignment services we offer at Libertyville Chevrolet, serving Waukegan.
It’s possible that only two wheels will be out of alignment. This is more common with two-wheel-drive vehicles, or trucks and full-size body-on-frame SUVs with a solid rear axle. If this is the case, our technicians will perform a two-wheel alignment.
If all four wheels are out of alignment, our technicians will use their precision instruments to bring all four back to factory specifications. This type of misalignment is more common on all-wheel drive and four-wheel drive vehicles, as well as vehicles with independent rear suspension.
This is where all alignment services begin. To fix alignment problems, our technicians have to figure out how your vehicle is misaligned, and to what extent. They’ll check the camber, caster, and toe angles. To get an idea of camber and toe, picture looking at a vehicle from the front, and then from the top. If you look at your vehicle from the front and the wheels appear tilted inwards at the top, and outwards at the bottom, this is called negative camber. If the top of the wheel sticks out farther than the bottom, that’s called positive camber. Switch to the top-down view to figure out the vehicle’s toe angle. If the fronts of the wheels are closer together than the rear, that’s called toe-in. The opposite is toe-out. The caster angle is a little harder to picture, but it refers to the difference between the vertical line and the steering axis. Our technicians will check all three to see which wheels are out of alignment.
